[12] 1 - Commercial Building Fire Safety Code
Commercial buildings must be outfitted with the following equipment:
- Commercial Buildings must publicly display a Certificate of Compliance with this code
- Commercial Buildings must publicly display emergency exit routes
- Fire Extinguishers
- Minimum of 1 Class A/ABC Fire Extinguisher per 75 feet of walkable distance.
- Flammable liquids must have a dedicated Class B extinguisher within 50 feet of the materials
- Cooking oils/kitchens must have a Class K extinguisher within 30 feet of the cooking area.
Smoke Detectors
- 1 functioning smoke detector per room
- Large rooms 2,500 Square Feet or more are recommended to be equipped with 2 or more smoke detectors. Fire Marshals may require this if they deem the room to be unsafe in the event of an emergency.
Carbon Monoxide Detection System
- 1 minimum Carbon Monoxide Detection System required per room/hallway
Fire Alarm System
- All commercial buildings must have a functioning alarm panel, with clearly marked fire alarms, Minimum 1 per room/hallway
Water Sprinkler System
- A functioning Pump,
- Commercial Buildings must have 1 functioning sprinkler head placed every 50 feet of walkable area.
- Minimum of 1 unobstructed emergency exit
For the purpose of this code, a commercial building is defined as any property which contains employees that perform a business function, or provides services in return for compensation
The Fire Marshal service must perform an inspection of the property and building once every 4 calendar months to recertify the building's safety status.

If a property fails to comply with, or meet the safety standards of, a safety inspection, the operator (individual or commercial entity) of the property may be fined and the premises may be closed until the violations are remedied.
