Contraband & Forfeiture Act
This act authorizes law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal levels to seize any vehicles, narcotics, or weapons that are either possessed or utilized during the commission of a felony offense.
Seizure and Ownership
Once an item is confirmed to have been used in the commission of a felony, the state is under no legal obligation to return it to the individual who possessed it. The government maintains full authority over these seized assets.
Disposition of Contraband
Law enforcement departments are granted the discretion to manage seized property as they see fit. This includes the authority to auction off seized vehicles or to destroy any contraband, including weapons, narcotics, and vehicles, at their own discretion.
