Any person who knowingly represents themselves as a law enforcement officer, or uses any uniform, insignia, badge, identification, title, or equipment associated with law enforcement, with the intent to deceive and exercise or attempt to exercise law enforcement authority over another person. This includes the use or display of emergency lighting, sirens, or police-style equipment, defined as red, blue, or patterned flashing lights, audible sirens or signalling devices, or vehicle markings or equipment commonly associated with law enforcement, in a manner that would cause a reasonable person to believe the individual is an officer.

The offense is complete upon any attempt to assert authority, including but not limited to initiating a stop, giving commands, detaining, directing, or attempting to control another person under the appearance of law enforcement authority. Mere possession or wearing of law enforcement-style clothing or equipment shall not constitute this offense unless accompanied by intent to impersonate and an act or attempt to exercise such authority.

Examples:
1) Dressing up as a cop and pretending to patrol a neighborhood.
2) Trying to intimidate a fellow motorist with a fake police badge.
3) Wearing a real police uniform and threatening to arrest someone.
Defense:
1) No intent to defraud
2) The film or theatre prop exception, and/or
3) No impersonation of a police officer.
