No person in public may:

  • Openly carry a firearm, or object that reasonably appears to be a firearm, other than a handgun properly secured as per State Penal Code Definition of Open Carry.
  • Wear a visible bullet proof vest, visible ballistic vest, or ballistic helmet, or vest or helmet that reasonably appears to be a bulletproof/ballistic vest/helmet.
This law applies to open carrying (see definitions) and wearing of items in public, it does not criminalize possession/ownership, sale, or use on private property.
Exemptions:
•Persons engaged in legal hunting within designated hunting grounds are exempt from the weapon carrying portion of this law.
• Illegal Display of Equipment is exempt to members of the News Media, Gruupe 6, Private Security, Firefighters, Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians, Law Enforcement and First Responders (including civilian law enforcement ride-alongs).
• Illegal Display of Weapons is exempt to Law Enforcement, Fire Marshals, Gruppe 6, Private Security and US Military.
