[3] 34 - Illegal Parking
No vehicle shall park, stop, stand, or wait in any area where parking is not clearly permitted. Vehicles must be parked properly in a marked parking stall or along a legal white/unmarked curbside area, unless otherwise authorized.
A vehicle may not park, stop, stand, or wait in any of the following areas:
- In front of, blocking, or obstructing a fire hydrant, driveway, sidewalk, intersection, crosswalk, bus stop, bike lane, or bike rack.
- Against, beside, or along a red curb, except for temporary stopping without parking.
- In any zone marked by a regulatory sign or road marking stating No Parking, No Stopping, Keep Clear, or Do Not Block.
- In a reserved, permit-required, private, or government area without proper authorization or permit display.
- On a highway shoulder, breakdown lane, median, or similar emergency lane unless due to an emergency, mechanical failure, or direction from emergency services or Department of Transportation workers.
- On railroad, tramway, or light-rail tracks, including areas near crossing arms, gates, or protective fencing, unless authorized for maintenance or an emergency situation.
- Adjacent to a roadway while facing the opposite direction of traffic flow.
Paramedics, firefighters, EMTs, police officers, and traffic officers are exempt from this code during the performance of their official duties.
Fine: $25
Parking: The standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except for the purpose of, and while actually engaged in, loading or unloading of cargo or passengers.
Stopping/Standing: Any cessation of movement of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or when in compliance with the direction of a police officer or official traffic control device or signal.
